COVID-19

CORONAVIRUS DISEASE 2019 (COVID-19)

What is covid-19? Is it merely a newfound disease or is there an underlying reason not known to outside world?

All we know is that the Coronavirus disease (COVID-19) is an infectious disease cause by a newly discovered coronavirus.

Most people infected with the COVID-19 virus will experience mild to moderate respiratory illness and recover without requiring special treatment. Older people, and those with underlying medical problems like cardiovascular disease, diabetes, chronic respiratory disease, and cancer are more likely to develop serious illness.

The best way to prevent and slow down transmission is be well informed about the COVID-19 virus, the disease it causes and how it spreads. Protect yourself and others from infection by washing your hands or using alcohol based rub frequently and not touching your face.

The COVID-19 virus spreads primarily through droplets of saliva or discharge from the nose when an infected person coughs or sneezes, so it's important that you also practice respiratory etiquette (for example, by coughing into a flexed elbow).

At this time, there are no specific vaccines or treatments for COVID-19. However, there are many ongoing clinical trials evaluating potential treatments. WHO will continue to provide updated information as soon as clinical findings become available.

However, there are many conspiracy theories saying that it is some sort of bio war started by the Chinese to gain control over the world. Others say that it's a tactic used by the country to reduce its population.

Despite this, there are certain things that shock the world, such as reporters disappearing without a trace after posting videos relating to the treatment received by the Chinese citizens affected by the virus and even the fact that a doctor's opinion on this virus at its early stages was disregarded. The death of that particular Chinese doctor who tried to warn about the outbreak has sparked widespread public anger and grief in China. Dr. Li Wenliang died after contracting the virus while treating patients in Wuhan. Last December he sent a message to fellow medics warning of a virus he thought looked like Sars - another deadly coronavirus. But he was told by the police to "stop making false comments" and was investigated for "spreading rumours". "I don't think he was rumour-mongering". "Hasn't this turned into reality now?" his father, Li Shuying, told the BBC. "My son was wonderful."

Nevertheless, the most important thing to remember is that this too shall pass and we will be fine. Always remember to keep yourself and others safe. Most importantly do not pose a threat when you fail to follow the safety measures and standard operating procedures.
